Debt Market Key Headlines

1) Overseas investors have pumped in about Rs 13,000 crore in the Indian debt market so far this month, endorsing the country's growth potential and political stability. This takes the total investment in the debt market to around Rs 99,000 crore so far this year.

2) A host of foreign investors and funds will be meeting corporate leaders in India next month, the first time since the global financial crisis, signifying changing perception about the country's growth potential.

Currency Market Headlines

1) The rupee has risen from an all-time low of 68.845 per dollar in August 2013, and is up 1.5 percent this year, touching a six-week high of 60.1975 on Sept. 8. It slipped back to an almost one-month low of 61.035.

2) Rupee slid to a four-week low on concern improving U.S. economic data will encourage the Federal Reserve to increase interest rates, eroding the attraction of higher-yielding assets elsewhere.

3) The dollar strengthened against its higher-yielding peers as a measure of currency-market volatility reached its strongest level since February.

Expectations for swings in India’s rupee declined!

Currency Market Headlines

1) Expectations for swings in India’s rupee declined to a three-year low as stocks rallied after a pickup in monsoon rains tempered concern inflation will accelerate.

2) The pound rose to the strongest level in 22 months against the euro as a report showing the U.K. jobless rate slid to the lowest since 2008 added to signs the economy can withstand higher interest rates.

3) New Zealand’s dollar slumped the most in seven weeks after the consumer price index increased less than economists forecast and a gauge of dairy prices dropped to the lowest level since 2012. 

Debt Market Key Headlines

1. Continuing to bet big on the reform agenda of Narendra Modi-led government, overseas investors have poured in nearly Rs 17,000 crore in the Indian markets since the beginning of the month.

2. Net investments by foreign investors in equity market stood at Rs 7,505 crore ($1.25 billion) till July 11. Net inflow for the debt market was Rs 9,286 crore ($1.55 billion), taking the total amount to Rs 16,791 crore ($2.8 billion), shows the latest data.

South Korea’s won rose to the strongest level in almost six years

1) The yen dropped against higher-yielding counterparts after Japan had a smaller current-account surplus than economists predicted and record-low foreign-exchange volatility curbed demand for haven assets.

2) South Korea’s won rose to the strongest level in almost six years as stimulus by the European Central Bank and better-than-expected U.S employment data supported demand for riskier assets.

3) Argentina’s efforts to stabilize the peso are being undercut by the 100,000 soccer fans Brazil is expecting to travel across the border to see the national team led by Lionel Messi try to win a third World Cup title.

1) India will likely raise the foreign investment limit in government debt soon, as almost all the allocation has already been taken up as overseas buyers pile into the country's financial markets, said four officials with direct knowledge of the government's thinking. The current cap is 995.46 billion rupees ($16.86 billion).

2) Foreign investors have poured in a staggering Rs. 19,772 crore ($3.35 billion) into the Indian debt market in May - the highest monthly inflow in about two and a half years.

Market Outlook- Gold eased to around $1,310 an ounce!

Gold eased to around $1,310 an ounce on Tuesday on prospects that the U.S. Federal Reserve will announce a modest reduction in its bond-buying stimulus at its two - day meeting. India doubled its import duty on gold jewellery to 15 percent on Tuesday, setting it higher than the duty on raw gold, which has been hiked three times this year to a record 10 percent.
