Debt Market Key Headlines

1) International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank's private-sector financing arm on Wednesday launched bonds worth $2.5 billion in the Indian market to fund infrastructure projects and private energy and to boost energy supply over the next five years.

2) Indian firms, including some with junk rating, is finding it cheaper to raise funds in money markets of Asia where demand for bonds floated by these companies has surged. Prices of these bonds have risen in the secondary market soon after their issuance in the offshore markets.

GMR Infra drops on buzz of fund raising via QIP!

Not much of action seen on Dalal Street with a bit of prof booking. The Sensex was down 37.69 points at 25190.48 and the Nifty was down 8.55 points at 7533.55. The Indian rupee strengthened to an 11-month high

The Indian rupee strengthened to an 11-month high on Monday, gaining for a fourth consecutive session as strong foreign inflows led domestic equities to record closing highs after the election of a new government to be led by Narendra Modi. However, continued central bank dollar-buying capped broader gains, with traders expecting the Reserve Bank of India to continue stepping in as it looks to build up its foreign exchange reserves. Data on Friday showed India's dollar reserves surged to a more than two-year high of $313.83 billion for the week to May 9, the highest since Nov. 11, 2011.

Market Outlook-HDFC Bank Q4: Analysts expect PAT growth at 26%

Nifty is technically in uptrend and may continue in that direction today. Poll sentiments are supporting this uptrend and results are also positive. But Rupee can cause a negative surprise and markets being at all time high can panic. Cautious trading is recommended and investors should partly book profits in their long positions. Aggressive new longs are not advised. But at the same time short positions should also be avoided.  Opening is likely to be flat and HDFC Bank’s Q4 results are to going to be the highlights of the day.

Indian rupee rallied to an eight-month high!

The Indian rupee rallied to an eight-month high, boosted by continued foreign fund inflows into domestic shares, but suspected dollar purchases by the central bank prevented the currency from gaining much further. The RBI has long been expected to start buying dollars when the rupee strengthens to add to foreign exchange reserves of $297.29 billion-the highest since late December 2011. The central bank's Dollar purchases would reflect the strength of a rupee rally. The RBI had to regularly buy the domestic currency just about half a year ago to keep it from hitting record lows.
